Week 6 (4th November 2014)

Seeing as i've written a sample script i thought id go all out and also story board it to make my story a little clearer for a stranger looking in.

so below you will find a copy of the storyboard.

Which i've now learned wasnt needed..... AH WELL!

Merchandise

Merchandising is a funny topic for a student animator to be thinkings about, but saying that the idea of being able to have everything i need to pitch a tv seris by christmas is an incredably odd thing too.

But its a requirment so Im going to go all out!

So first things first i need to do my research because how can i design merchandise for 8-11 year olds if i dont know what audience wants?

Im next in work on saturday with the jr's so i'll ask them personally for there input then but today is Tuesday and i havent got time to waste so...

TO THE INTERNET!

5 minuetes of research progess update.....

So turned out that googling "popular merchandise for children" does nothing, at all.

I've now googled "Popular christmas toys 2014" and i'm honestly not inpressed with the toys that are currently out there, whilst reading this atical (click here for artical) i did come across a toy that im tempted to use as inspiration or maybe even buy as a joke gift for one of my siblings.

Meet Xeno, the toy im going to force apon all my siblingsd this christmas.

Xeno's website

"Top Toy This Christmas 2014!"

How scary is this toy?!?!?!

Them eyes! Im tempted to use them for referencing on my 3 min film for my storyteller.

Plush toys.

Again i dont know the first thing about producing a plan for making a plush toy.

Whats the standard? How much does it acually cost? Whats the best type of fabic and stuffing to use?

ITS ALL VERY CONFUSING!

So i headed on other to Build a bear as i knew they sold bears and i've recently bought a pretty darn awesome toothless (from how to train your dragon) plush from them so i knew the quallity was up to the standed id expect.

Whilst on this site i got a god idea what kind of size to aim for with my product, though i couldnt find anything about fabics but i did find a page about child safty.

The page in question.

Here are the parts that i found usful.

Safety –Your safety is beary important to us

At Build-A-Bear Workshop® our stuffed animal skins and clothing are produced from high quality man-made materials or natural fibers such as cotton, and the stuffing is made of a high-grade polyester fiber.

Our products are tested through an independent third-party testing lab for compliance with toy safety standards. We comply with toy safety government requirements specific to each country where we have stores. All Build-A-Bear Workshop products must have a passing test report on record prior to shipping from our suppliers.

Our toy furniture, strollers, and pet accessories are designed and made for stuffed animals and should not be used for humans or pets.

Lead Paint

Plush animals are not likely to contain lead, which is found in paint and surface coatings. Our plush animals are not surface painted and do not have screen prints on them that contain paint. In rare instances, a plush animal may have painted eyes, and in some cases our bear clothing and accessories have screen prints that could contain paint. In all cases, we take the steps to assure that our products meet or exceed all toy safety standards.

The ASTM, EN71 (European standards) and Canadian Toy Safety Regulations specifically limit lead content in products. We comply with these regulations. As such, our products must be under these limits to pass the testing requirements, and all items are tested prior to shipment.

Magnets

Build-A-Bear Workshop notifies Guests when a product contains a magnet with a magnet warning on the product packaging. In most cases, the magnets utilized in our Build-A-Bear Workshop products are embedded inside a toy (animal, scarf, plush accessory). They are not loose or easily detached as free magnets.

Packaging and Labels

You can use our packaging as a guide to safety and age play appropriateness. Packaging and labels for each product tell our Guests the age grading for the product in accordance with guidelines established by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

AGE GRADING

  • Our stuffed animals are safe for children of all ages. The best bear for a child under 3 is a bare bear (undressed and totally huggable). Battery operated animals are age graded for 12+Months.

  • Our clothing and accessories are marked age appropriate for children 3 and up.

Care How do I clean my bear?

If your bear needs a spot cleaning, we offer a Bear Stuff® cleaner available in-store or on our website that you spray on and wipe with a clean cloth, air dry and then brush the cleaned area. The cleaner is non-toxic and made from a blend of mild detergents and water softeners.

If your bear needs more than a spot cleaning, and does NOT contain a sound inside and is not battery operated you can place the bear inside a pillow case and knot the case closed, machine wash on gentle cycle in cold water with mild soap and let the bear air dry. If your bear does contain a sound inside you can go to a Build-A-Bear Workshop store to have the sound removed before washing.

ASTHMA FRIENDLY®

Velvet Bear and Velvet Puppy meet asthma friendly® standards according to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America. We manufacture these products from materials that do not contain certain chemicals and allergens known to affect asthma and allergies.

Under normal conditions of use and if these specific care guidelines are followed, this toy will not accumulate high levels of household allergens.

Recommended care includes, Wash before use and follow these instructions every four weeks:

  • Place toy in freezer bag

  • Place in freezer for 24 hours

  • Machine wash cold (use a mild detergent when washing this toy. Do not use fabric softeners)

  • Tumble dry on low (some shrinkage may occur over time)

One thing I'm really having a hard time with though is finding out is what materials are used, it seems to be one of them need to know things that the internet really are not allowed to kniw about.

How odd......

My designs

Meet My little plushy firends!

I've choosen to do Queen Isis, Cat fish and Squishy as plush toys because to me they are the more cuddly charecters, lets be read who wants to cuddle a bad guy or a crab?

I LIKE THEM!

Im shocked with how well they've come out if im honest, the cat fish one is by far my favourite, its the kind of thing i can really image become a thing.

Im still having an issue with what fabrics id use but right now its the last thing i need to be worrying about.
