But Littlejohn believes all trans women are just ‘men who decided to call themselves women’ and dress up.

‘The most ridiculous aspect of the “trans” pantomime: the idea that men such as Jenner, with a full set of male sexual organs, can be described as “women” — just because they say they are,’ he writes.

‘If some men decide to call themselves women, and the other way round, there’s not much we can do about it.

‘(I do hope they won’t mind if I don’t join them, though. Even if I wore a little off-the-shoulder Hermes number and a pair of slingbacks, I’d still manage to make Dame Edna look like Nicole Kidman.)’

Littlejohn made a point of agreeing with Dame Edna creator Barry Humphries and Germaine Greer over the issue. The latter said: ‘Just because you lop off your cock and then wear a dress, doesn’t make you a fucking woman.’ He did however say he had no problem with people transitioning if there was an actual medical reason.

Back in 2013, over 240,000 people signed a petition calling for Littlejohn to be fired over an article he wrote attacking trans teacher Lucy Meadows.

Littlejohn said, in the article, ‘he’s(sic) not only trapped in the wrong body, he’s(sic) in the wrong job’. In March 2013, Meadows committed suicide.

Blackburn and Hyndburn Coroner Michael Singleton said press coverage of her transition was ‘ill informed bigotry’ and Littlejohn had ‘carried out what can only be described as a character assassination, having sought to ridicule and humiliate Lucy Meadows and bring into question her right to pursue her career as a teacher’.

And now, in 2016, Littlejohn references this.

‘You can’t say you weren’t warned. I’ve been writing for the past ten years about “trans” being the next frontier for the diversity warriors,’ he said.

Speaking to Gay Star News, Trans Media Watch’s Helen Belcher said: ‘Littlejohn misses the point again.

‘Trans is not about clothes, it’s about being comfortable in yourself. The fact that society oppressed trans people, and before that gay people, for years doesn’t make that oppression right. I’ve never had to declare my gender to a border official, but the risk if the gender marker doesn’t correspond to the perception of the person in front of them can be very real.

‘Hate crime does have victims, sadly too many of them. It’s hate crime that the Committee is recommending placing on an equal basis, not insults – but, of course, that gets in the way of the supposed and remarkably consequence-free “free speech” that established commentators, such as Littlejohn, hide behind.

‘It would be great if opinion writers actually took the time to properly research the issues and inform the public rather than constantly peddling half-truths.’
