Test shot 2
showing love with an origami heart

One of the key moments in my characters story is represented in the making of a origami heart, which at the time of storyboarding/animatic was a great idea! but in practice was a lot more difficult that i originally planned! Here's how i achieved this difficult task.
Stage 1: How do you even made an origami heart?

So it turns out there's a million different ways of making an origami heart, some really easy others that take hours and look like real pieces of art. The challenge i know had was finding a way to make the heart simple enough that would animate well.
Heart day!
The joys of being a youth worker is that i have access to teenage's all the time. Which you'll be amazed how useful this resource is when it comes to making about a teenage coming to terms with who they are.
So together myself and my animation club spent an evening making hearts, using google/ youtube to try and find as many different and fun ways of making them whilst discussing the problems that i may face in animating the techniques.
Surrounding you can see examples of some of the resources we used.
From this i decided to choose the simplest from of heart to use to animate. i then recorded myself using my phone a mouth held tripod type thing i made out of a pencils and some rubber bands as seen to the right.
It was honestly one of the most difficult
filming experiences of my life and though not
brilliant, in face it was pretty awful. the footage that
i did get was very helpful to me in planning out this shot.

And here it is. Again excuse the shakiness of the footage.

The finial shot! well test shot.
its super rough but after hours and hour and drawing and studying the same shaky scene i got this!
Honestly, considering how rough it is i'm so happy with the outcome of this. i think it could maybe do with a another look at the timing in places but thats something i'll revisit when it comes to the finial animation/edit.

The heart!
