Test shot 4
The struggles of writting
I had a really hard time with this shot.
To follow the pervious test shot of the book opening the character then begins to start writing in the book. Now you'd think this would be really straight forward... i did at least. TURNS OUT THATS NOT THE CASE!
To keep this shot as simple as possible i just thought i'd rotascope it. Hands are hard enough to work with at the best of time, never mind when you have limited time for a test shot.
So i film a little sample video on my phone using my Wacom tablet as the space that would be taken up by the book. Which can be seen to the right of this text.
After watching it back i remember questioning weather of not it was going to work and paniking ever so slightly. But despite all this i still went forward and attempted to rotascope it. which can be found below
I spent so many hours on this, more hours than i'd like to admit too and its just wasnt working! its so tight and uncomfortable to watch, i'd attempted to merge this shot with the book as shown in my last post.
Once seeing how awful they looked together i scrapped it completely and tried to think of a new way to solve this problem.
TAKE 2
I was having a hard time trying to visualize an alternative to my problem. i knew that i wanted to see the words being written, i just wasnt sure how i was going to go about it.
Then i watched the little prince and the open credits inspired me!
Within the first 2 minuete of the litte prince the story is being written. this is done though pencil lines and shapes being drawn to create his character (which can be seen in the video to the right). I really really liked this i used it to help me map out my replacement shot.
So just like before I recorded myself, only this time i actually wrote the script and filmed at a slight angle. which can be seen in the video to the left.
I filmed this so that once everything was written the camera would move down the page were a door would be drawn ready for the transition to the next scene.
Again to try and keep it as simple as possible i chose to rotascope this shot, but this time only animating the words being written. which can be seen in the video on the right. I'm happier with this, a lot happier. i think when it actually comes to animating i'm going to have to use a sound sheet of some description to help me with the timing. But apart from that everything is great.
I may add a pencil to the shot, but i'm still unsure at this point.
